hey i’ve seen a lot of posts recently about supporting min-wage workers and having worked in ~15 food service & retail jobs, let me tell you, the very best thing you can do for an employee that doesn’t cost a dime is send in a guest compliment.
google ‘-company name- contact us’ and find a general e-mail address or comment box, and tell them which location you were at and the name of the person who helped you(date and time helps too!) and shout out some praise!
e-mails like this have two benefits
1) they are typically seen by not only the manager-on-duty, but the store manager, the other managers, the rest of staff, the district manager, and sometimes even the regional manager. to be known by the DM & RM for doing good work is extremely helpful, it can open doors for promotions, never mind providing job security and helping you get what you need(hours, time off, etc)
2) many many workplaces have reward systems in place. when i worked at an amusement park, after 5 guest compliments we got a free admission ticket i think? and at my current job, you get a free candle and an award. which okay, these are obviously treats and not necessities, when you’re broke af, it’s nice to win free things for doing your job right!
example e-mail:
To Whom It May Concern,
I visited your Detroit location today around noon, and I was so pleased with Bri’s customer service! She was so kind and knowledgeable! She helped me find exactly what I needed. Just wanted to make sure her good work doesn’t go unnoticed!
